It was all over after Game 2. The Pens were down 2-0 in the East Quarterfinals against Philadelphia. Despite both games going to overtime, the Flyers were heading home up by two games.
The pundits had seen enough. "First round exit," some said.
The players on Pittsburgh took it personally. They would go on to win four of the next five, including a 5-3 nailbiter in Game 7. Another tough series awaited, and another nailbiting Game 7 saw the Pens escape the Islanders in a 2-1 tilt.
The team was now tested. And they dominated the rest of the way. Four straight wins against the Capitals. Four straight wins against the Stars. And now, the Pittsburgh Penguins are Stanley Cup Champions. Congrats to Niko and his club!
