During the last two weeks of play, the Carolina Hurricanes went 2-3-0, with their two wins in front of their home PNC Arena crowd.
The Hurricanes were outscored 22-16 over their past 5 games, which shows that some improvements need to be made to the teams defensive strategy.
Andrei Svechnikov led the team in points over the 5-game stretch with two goals and five assists (7 points).
Along with the defensive play of the Canes, the goaltenders have tried their best so far to hold the fort. Starting goalie Sergei Bobrovsky currently posts a GAA of 3.49 and Save Percentage of .899. Backup Jack Campbell has similar numbers with a GAA of 3.67 and Save Percentage of .890.
The good news out of these two weeks is that young star Svechnikov seems to have gotten the monkey off his back and was able to score his first two goals as a BEARD League Hurricane. He sits second on the team in scoring with 9 points behind team captain John Tavares (11 points).
The next three games for the Canes this week will be against the Washington Capitals (in which they won), Seattle Kraken, and Philadelphia Flyers.
On the farm, the Chicago Wolves posted a 2-4-0 record in week 2 and 3, getting outscored 29-17. Even with the losses, the Wolves have some bright spots and continue to see leadership from some surprising places.
Maxim Shalunov posted 5 goals and 1 assist in the 6 games, with two multi-goal outings.
Defense and goaltending seem to also be an area for development on the farm as it is in the pro league for this organization. Both goalies for the Wolves have gone 2-2-0, with a similar GAA and Save Percentage. Definitely room to improve with the amount of shots getting through to the net.
This week the Wolves will face off against the Rockford IceHogs and the Iowa Wild. Leading the team in points is veteran forward Dale Weise with 9 points (6g, 3a).
