Season Preview: Meet The Rangers

Rangers fans have high expectation for their club this season, and GM Michael Stafford feels the Blueshirts will be in good position.

“Hi out there. This is Chase DeFrancesco of News 12 Westchester. If anyone is wondering how to get to the New York Rangers practice facility in Elmsford, NY this afternoon, the answer is simple: just follow the traffic from RT. 9A.

It’s a busy day here because the Rangers fans and the local press are about to meet the 2022-23 New York Rangers. And here we go.

Peter Laviolette, Head Coach of the Rangers is about to speak.

“Good afternoon and welcome. I am Coach Laviolette of the New York Rangers. It has been a long off season, but the regular season is just around the corner because your Rangers have just finished their last practice of the off season.

I am not ready to predict what I think will happen this season, but I can promise all of you that it will be one of the most exciting NHL seasons for the Rangers in a while. I will now introduce your Captain Chris Kreider to answer your questions. Chris.”

“Welcome. Coach Laviolette has scheduled team meetings for the rest of the day before we take on Tampa Bay so I will answer as many questions as I can.”

Kreider points to Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

“Larry. Chris, you have taken on a lead role in this year’s Rangers including playing on the first power play line and a primary penalty killer. At age 31, nearly 11 years after your Broadway debut in the 2012 playoffs, what can we expect of you this year?"

“The guys who I’ve looked up to are the guys who play in all situations and would do whatever it took to win hockey games. I always said to myself that’s what I wanted to do, I wanted to help us win hockey games any way I could. I had some incredible examples early on with those teams that we had, so it’s something I’m really enjoying and trying to get better at.”

Then Kreider reaches out to Jon Heyman od Apple Podcasts.

“Jon. Chris. Could you tell us a little bit more about your job as Ranger Captain?”

“I honestly do think my job is simple. We’re being asked to play a simple game that’s not necessarily easy, so obviously I need to play hard and keep my feet moving, but I think there are a lot of things that are in my control on a daily basis regardless of whether pucks are going in."

"Sorry guys but I only have time to answer one more question. How about you, Chase?”

“Who are some of the platers we as fans should keep our eyes on this season?”

“That’s a tough one Chris but one of the obvious players to watch is our new goaltender Thatcher Demko who is one of the best young goalies in the league. He sees the ice well and always in a position to make the tough save.

"Matt Dumba has worked hard with the other defensive players to be in a better position on each shift to help Thatcher.

"On offence, fans should keep an eye on winger Tomas Tatar. He had a great pre-season and is ready to contribute on a high level.

"Sorry guys, I need to go. Don’t want to start the year off by getting fined for being late to a meeting.”

“Well Ranger fans. It was a brief but to the point interview with Ranger Captain Chris Kreider. This is Chase DeFrancesco of News 12 Westchester reporting from the New York Ranger training facility in Elmsford, N.Y.”
