Trouble in St. Louis? After a loss earlier this week and one tonight, the Blues are off to a 2-4-1 start and have been outscored 25-20.
The Blues power play, coming into tonight's action, sat 3rd-last in the league and their penalty killing is 25th in the league. They stand 18th in the league for goals for and rank 27th in goals against. They boast one of the top payrolls in the league which includes Burns, Crosby and Hedman, all making in the 9 million dollar range.
Following Tuesday's game, a visibly upset Sidney Crosby was seen in the halls of the Gila River Arena along with Coach Michel Therrien speaking with GM Todd Snider who made the trip to Arizona ( probably to golf!).
Crosby could be upset with his ice time which sits 2nd among forwards behind Evander Kane. His production is down as he has only 2 goals and 2 assists in 6 games and sits at a minus 6.
Rumours have it Crosby has been vocal about 1st Overall pick Alexis Lafreniere been sent down at start of the season to Springfield (Blues Farm club). Crosby was led to believe he would mentor Lafreniere this year and even agreed to have the young star move in with him. Lafreniere would definitely add some more scoring punch to the lineup and its said Crosby would welcome him on his left side.
People close to the situation have said while Crosby would never demand a trade (he does not believe its his right), he has however suggested a shake up might be in order.
Could we see Lafreniere promoted shortly? Is GM Snider looking maybe to shake up the squad up this early in the season and pull off a trade? After pulling off a blockbuster at the dispersal draft to land Crosby would GM Snider consider shipping his star captain elsewhere
Stay Tuned!
GM Snider did not return our call when we contacted the organization.
