After a seemingly quiet offseason turned upside down, the New York Islanders have found the man to lead them forward in Joe Bubanj.
September 22, 2021 – UBS Arena, Elmont, NY In a stunning turn of events, the entire sports community was called together to a press conference earlier in the day to announce the appointment of Joseph T Bubanj as the new General Manager of the New York Islanders in BEARD Hockey.
After introductions, it was time for the question and answer period. Matthew Northstead of Newsday: Joe it's nice to meet you, is it okay if I call you Joe?
Joseph: Matthew, it is very nice meeting you as well and Joe is fine.
Matthew: Joe, can you tell us a little bit about yourself? What makes you qualified to become the general manager of the New York Islanders in the BEARD Hockey League?
Joseph: Well Matthew what qualifies me to take over as the GM of the New York Islanders is because I have been managing fantasy teams including sim teams for over 30 years across many platforms so I think I'm ready to take on the challenges of this franchise and in BEARD Hockey.
I have been told that BEARD Hockey is a great league and I'm looking forward to getting to know the other General Managers as time goes on. I have already been in contact with quite a few GM’s and each has been helpful and have accepted me with open arms.
Guy Panik of the Daily News: I am not sure if you have had a chance to look over the roster but where do you see your team?
Joseph: Well with the free agency period having started, Coach Bednar and I have been studying the roster long and hard and we believe that there are pieces here to be very successful. Coach Bednar and I truly believe that we have a nice mix of players on the roster with a good group of prospects. We do have a few holes to fill on both the pro roster and farm roster and we will begin the process of searching for those players today and going forward through the draft and trades if they make sense for the franchise.
Guy: Have you had a chance to walk around the new USB Arena?
Joseph: I have and I have to say the UBS Arena is beautiful both inside and outside and I look forward to playing our first home game here and many more in front of the greatest fans in the world.
