GM Keith Evans gives his takes on the early picks from Vegas in the BEARD Hockey Dispersal Draft.
The Vegas Golden Knights were excited to be able to pick in the 1st round of the BEARD Hockey Dispersal Draft in the 14th overall position.
First pick: Alex Ovechkin
What more needs to be said about one of the best pure snipers in the game today. Alex can log a lot of ice time and is a strong leader. We couldn’t believe he was still there at the 14th pick.
Second pick: Mark Stone
In the 2nd round at 51st overall, we took Mark Stone. A talented and strong forward, Stone will complement Ovechkin well and provides another steady anchor on the offensive attack.
Third pick: Claude Giroux
In the 3rd round at 78th overall, we took Claude Giroux. Claude will be able to center one of the best #1 lines in the league and will provide stability down the middle for years to come.
Fourth pick: Jake Allen
By the time the 4th round came around, it was time to take an experienced netminder. At 115th overall, we went with Jake Allen, who easily fits the bill and gives us a true puck-stopper between the pipes.
Fifth pick: Ben Chiarot
With pick #179, we took rugged defenseman Ben Chiarot. Chiarot is a veteran rearguard that is known for his dedication and hard work in his own end.
With these five players at the core of the Golden Knights, there's little doubt the club will be a force to be reckoned with in the inaugural BEARD Hockey season.
Being one of the newest GM’s league and new to sim hockey in general, it will be interesting to see just how things will gel together for this club.
Excellent first article Keith! GREAT first line!
