Hockeytown Goes Swedish with GM Lundgren at Helm

The new general manager takes the reins of the historic franchise with the 10th overall pick in the Dispersal Draft in tow.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Detroit Red Wings will continue with their long tradition of Swedish bloodlines. After Nicklas Lidstrom, Niklas Kronwall, Johan Franzen, and Henrik Zetterberg, it's time for Mathias Lundgren to be the name to remember.

Being born in the same region as Zetterberg, Elias Petterson, Fredrik Modin, the Sedin twins, Peter Forsberg, and Markus Naslund among others, Lundgren may not have the same level of playing skill as the more known names before him - but the leadership and the blue-blooded talent of finding the bits and pieces to build a successful team that is something that this newly turned 41-year-old Swede has down to an art.

Along with this good and welcomed news, the Dispersal Draft lottery was a great day for Detroit. The Red Wings find themselves picking at the number 10 spot in the first round, and it will be exciting to see what road Lundgren will take.
